PACIFIC CREST TRAIL THROUGH BIG BEAR LAKE: MILE 266- ENJOY YOUR ZERO-DAY HERE IN PARADISE!
Traversing over 700 miles of deserts and mountain ranges the Pacific Crest Trail is striking and easily accessible in Southern California. With over 39 miles of the famous trail winding in and out of Big Bear’s resort town this is the perfect spot for your group to take a rest.
Coming from the South you will begin your journey through the San Bernardino National Forest near the Santa Rosa Mountains making your way North, passing Onyx Peak and dropping into the Valley of Big Bear near Baldwin Lake. With many exit points throughout the Valley the trail will roam around Big Bear Lake winding in and out of pine forests. Once you reach the north side of Baldwin Lake, the trail curves to the West heading towards the Big Bear Discovery Center.
Many PCT hikers pause for a few nights in Big Bear Village before continuing on their incredible trek. Here in town hikers can take a break from the trail for a few days to rest, pickup bounce/resupply boxes, enjoy a night or two on a real bed, and soak in a hot shower or hot tub. With a friendly community welcoming hikers with arms wide open local Trail Angels and Volunteers are plentiful in Big Bear along many options for holding supply/bounce boxes in town, this is the perfect recovery stop for many trekkers.
