As the snow begins to melt away and ski season comes to a close, Big Bear, California comes to life in the name of spring. Putting away the snowboard means picking up the hiking boots when you travel to this destination at the changing of the seasons and enjoying some amazing Big Bear spring activities. Whether you’re passionate about hitting the trails or taking time to enjoy the colorful view, Big Bear California offers up incredible opportunities in the springtime. Here are a few must-stop destinations when you’re putting together your ideal spring itinerary.
Big Bear Spring Activities – Day 1: Alpine Pedal Path Trail
Connecting just over half a mile from the Big Bear Discovery Center, the Alpine Pedal Path Trail is a wonderful, family-friendly destination for a springtime adventure. This well-paved loop circles the northern end of Big Bear Lake and is perfect for walking, jogging or skating through the warmer springtime weather. Picnic areas dot the path when you’re in the mood for a mealtime outdoors with the towering trees above watching over you as you dine. The Alpine Pedal Path Trail is also an ideal place for spotting Bald Eagles who generally stay in the area through the end of April. Not only this, but you’ll find that a large variety of different animals often can be spotted as they make a short appearance to say hello and check out the newcomers to their natural world. You’ll further discover that with the glittering lake and towering trees, the area is perfect for those who are looking to snap the perfect picture. As well, you will find that it makes for a perfect family trip thanks to the easy nature of the trail, thus ensuring that everyone in your group can come along and nobody must feel left out. All in all, this is one of our most favorite Big Bear things to do in April!

Day 2: Emingers Mountain Nursery
Spring is a season for growth and new beginnings. No place encompasses this seasonal ideal better than Emingers Mountain Nursery, which is sure to be a talking point for your stay as you gander at the various plants that can be found within their borders. As one of the oldest nurseries in Big Bear Lake, Emingers is a great place to come and speak with expert staff on plants, flowers, and how to care for a variety of foliage that makes up gorgeous landscaping designs. Come wander through the young trees that will one day grow to be gargantuan, towering watchers of whatever home you put them within, shrubs that always are a lovely sight and bring to mind images of the countryside out of a Thomas Kinkade painting, and vines that evoke areas deep in the forest, where clearings are protected by their stretching arms and which are great for a look at what it takes to create a truly spectacular lawn or garden. Emingers also has a vast collection of garden and yard décor, making it the ideal place to pick up a springtime souvenir while you’re here. Between the beautiful plants, knowledgeable staff, and inviting atmosphere, you are sure to find it the perfect stop when you come and visit this spring.

Day 3: Peppercorn Grille
When spring rolls around, there’s nothing better than sitting outdoors with a glass of something savory in hand. The Peppercorn Grille offers up this scenario to guests on a daily basis in Big Bear. Since opening in 2003, the Peppercorn Grille has served up a vast selection of menu items and is renowned for its heated patio that keeps guests enjoying the fresh-air vibe even when it takes a turn for the crisp. Enjoy everything from calamari to Alaskan salmon with a variety of filet mignon choices in between. You’ll also find plenty of other bites to tempt your palate. For instance, dig into a heaping helping of lasagna that would make Garfield look on jealously, or perhaps grab a hand-tossed pizza featuring all your favorite toppings. You’ll also find quite the variety of pasta, from the rich lobster ravioli to the buttery and creamy fettuccine alfredo and everything in between. Of course, there are seafood dishes aplenty, from the previously mentioned salmon to the classy lobster tail to the humbler, but nonetheless flavorful tilapia. You’ll even find some more unique options such as chicken marsala. With such a large and diverse menu, everyone is assured to find something that will make their mouths water and stomachs rumble in anticipation. On top of the excellent food, you’ll even find a large selection of expertly made cocktails, bold wines, and smooth and hoppy beers. Elegant, social and scenic, the Peppercorn Grille is a great place for a meal when you’re traveling through Big Bear in the spring. This is one of the best Big Bear things to do in April!
