Swimming on Big Bear Lake
There are few restrictions when it comes to swimming on Big Bear Lake. You can get in the water anywhere along the 23-miles of shoreline, but swim with caution, as lifeguards are only on duty at a few beaches along the lake. Swimmers are required to stay within 50 feet of the shoreline so that they stay clear of motor boats.
If you rent one of our lakefront homes, you will be able to enjoy your own private section of the lake. Lay out on your private patio and enjoy stunning views of the sparkling waters. When you get hot, jump into Big Bear’s cool refreshing waters.
If you want to explore a different section of the lake, consider checking out Garstin Island. Also known as China Island, the rock formation is a popular spot among swimmers jumping off the boulders into the deep, cool waters of Big Bear Lake.
Fishing on Big Bear Lake
If you enjoy fishing, Big Bear Lake is full of rainbow trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegill, and catfish. There are several spots in town where you can rent fishing gear and equipment to fish off the dock behind your lakefront cabins in Big Bear lake. If you do plan on fishing, make sure to get the proper fishing license. The state of California requires all adults over the age of 16 to have a fishing license. Fishing licenses can be purchased at many stores in town, including 7-Eleven.
If you want to fish from other parts of the lake, consider booking a fishing charter. There are several shops that offer fishing charters around the lake. The fishing charters range from half days to full days and take you to some of the best spots for fishing around the lake. They also provide all of the fishing gear and tackle. You just need to make sure to get a fishing license before the trip.
Water Sports on the Lake
Explore the lake from the water by renting a paddleboard, kayak, or canoe. There are several spots where you can rent non-motorized boats by the hour or for the day. The sun is shining all day, and the waters of Big Bear are flat making the lake ideal for active water sports. Explore the lakes many caves, coves, nooks, and crannies, many of which are only accessible by a non-motorized boat.
If you want a less active way to explore the lake rent a pontoon boat, speed boat, or a jet ski. Big Bear Marina is conveniently located off of Big Bear Boulevard and offers a variety of boat rentals.
