The worst thing about staying in a hotel, in our humble opinion, is the impersonal sterility of the rooms. Hallway after hallway filled with doors that lead to rooms that look exactly like the other rooms; the beds may be bigger, and some views may be nicer than others, but the fixtures, linens, even the furnishings and electronics provided are EXACTLY THE SAME.
When you rent an Owl Pine Lodge cabin, however, the difference is apparent immediately. Not only are our rentals more isolated than hotels rentals and regularly cleaned, the exteriors resemble a smaller sized Swiss chalet constructed of wood and brick and a dramatic pitched roof that provides a shaded patio for quiet moments with coffee and company. During the colder skiing season, Snow Summit and Bear Mountain—the area’s two most popular ski resorts—are just five minutes away by car. Big Bear Snow Play, a lift-serviced snow tubing area that features lit nighttime tubing and complimentary hot chocolate, and the Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain, an alpine toboggan coaster that uses mountain terrain to create a ride, are also nestled five minutes away.
In the summer, the Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain turns into a water park with water slides, and Big Bear Snow Play turns into Big Bear Speedway, with go-karting and mini-golfing onsite. Visitors and locals alike are drawn to the sparkling waters of Big Bear Lake, where people can go fishing, boating, swimming, jet skiing, kayaking, canoeing, and more.

Big Bear Lake is well-known for its stock of trout and bass. Also known for the extraordinary sightseeing cruises and private charters provided by unique vessels, like the old-fashioned paddlewheel boats known as the Big Bear Queen and the Miss Liberty, or the authentic Spanish Galleon replica, Time Bandit (as seen in the movie Time Bandits). Just stop by any of the local marinas to begin your lake adventure; they offer permits for fishing and boating, equipment rentals, and charter services like parasailing at Pine Knot Marina.
