HomeBest Times to Visit Big Bear

Big Bear is a great vacation destination year-round with activities on offer in all seasons. Whether you’re visiting in summer or winter, we have plenty to keep you entertained! Check out some of the best times to visit Big Bear below.

Winter

Visiting Big Bear in winter will give you access to a wide variety of snow sports. The terrain park at Bear Mountain has snowboarders honing their skills on pipes, boxes, rails, logs, tanks and other snow features. Skiers will enjoy eight trails, seven lifts, and 650′ of vertical, and slopes from green beginner with magic carpets to double black diamond. Ski season is generally mid-December to mid-March. Enjoy some exercise while you visit Big Bear with a pair of snow shoes or cross country skis on the snow covered trails. Or if the cold weather isn’t your thing, curl up by the fireplace in one of our modern log cabins and watch the snow gently fall from the warmth of indoors. Many of our rentals include amenities such as game rooms, offering plenty of indoor entertainment.

Summer

When the snow melts, the ski slopes turn to downhill biking trails for the adventurous mountain biker. Take the ski lift up and go for a thrilling ride back down! There are over a hundred miles of trails and forest service roads to keep mountain bikers adventuring for days. The Alpine Pedal Path offers a smoother more leisurely ride. During warm weather, Big Bear turns into quite the lake destination, with a variety of water sports available. Kayak, paddle board, jet ski, or canoe the lake. Cool off with a splash down the Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain. Leap off a platform and zip line an adrenaline inducing 85′ above the forest floor. Or slow the pace and enjoy a 9-hole round of golf.

Year Round

Alpine Zoo is unique in that it operates as both a zoo and a rehabilitation facility for injured, orphaned and imprinted wild animals, until they are able to survive on their own and are released back into the wild. Come get up close and personal with the black bears, coyotes, grizzly bears, snow leopards, and so many more when you visit Big Bear!
